Artist’s Statement
What if you could be in your favorite sitcom? That’s The BizNest. Set in a co-working space, YOU, the viewer, are a member, surrounded by freelancers and entrepreneurs working, socializing, flirting, and navigating the modern work-life balancing act.
Having set out to fully utilize 360 degrees, situate the viewer in a believable world and pioneer spatial storytelling, The BizNest redefines sitcom conventions for a new medium. The result? An immersive, real-time experience with multiple interwoven stories—more than TV—and a rich storytelling environment. The BizNest utilizes a never-before-seen “choose your own attention” approach in which the viewer decides where to look, and because of the clarity of the dialog, never loses the story thread. The experience bears rewatching; after several viewings, the viewer still discovers new things.
The BizNest integrates the connectivity of YouTuber content with the structured narrative and character development of TV, getting the viewer closer than ever to the characters they love. And it succeeds at making you, the viewer, a character, allowing for a fully immersive, engaging experience that doesn’t require interactivity or viewer decision-making. It does prompt one viewer response: laughter.
